I started reading it, I was hooked, and couldn t stop reading , had to know what happened next Loved the characters, there s something about Jeffrey Layton writing style that reminds me of some of my favorite authors like Michael Crichton, and one of my all time favorite authors James Rollins, their 2 authors I could definitely see writing something like this, this series is a must check out Can t wait to pick up a copy of both books 1 and 2 so I can read them back to back, with that said I would love to think NetGalley for giving me a chance at finding a new author as well as a new series to read ,in a change for my honest opinion I loved it Can t wait to see what happens next The Forever Spy by Jeffery Layton far exceeded my expectations I have never read a spy novel before and after reading this one I amthan willing to broaden my horizons Yuri Kirov had settled into a tranquil domestic situation with Laura Newman and her baby hoping to leave his past behind when a voice from his who are wreaking havoc on the Pacific Northwest I was given an advanced copy of this book, and all of the opinions expressed in this review are my own THE FOREVER SPY by Jeffrey Layton is a story wife and child are violently brought into the mix Layton lays out an interesting plot, with personal connections and loyalties are often questioned and sometimes strengthened, but the characters are a little obvious for me I wasn t really surprised or shocked by any choice a character made and I could predict just about every choice they did make A wild card character or a few questionable choices I think would have made for ainteresting book That being said, I did like and pull for the good guys and want to see the demise of the bad Not being well versed in aquatic terminology and weaponry, I feel a little behind and at times and slow to understand what I was reading, but mostly I was able to piece together what was going on and how the action played out in the water Towards the end of the book, as any good thriller should do, I found myself reading faster and faster because I couldn t wait to see what happened at the end A good espionage thriller, I enjoyed A FOREVER SPY and I would read another book in the Yuri Kirov series in the future Thank you to Kensington Books Pinnacle, Jeffrey Layton, and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review Review originally published at Book of Bogan. This book had me unequal parts interested and confused throughout, and while I like a good spy thriller, I like it to at least make sense in the end The Forever Spy reminded me of one of those Celtic knots where the patterns go around and around and interweave with each other, and you re never quite sure where one starts and ends There are so many disparate struggled to follow who was who, what the ultimate stakes were, and I didn t care for any of it.I will admit that I had not read the first book in this series, and had not heard of this author before But I decided to give it a go anyway there is always room for new players and new ideas in fiction It is sad for me to say that there was just too much going on here a secret submarine plot, something with Russians, something with Chinese, and all of these moving parts just didn t make sense as an overall picture. As a consequence of this convolution, I found it very hard to read, and it took me over a week to finish At the pace I usually read at, and for a book that is supposed to be a genre thriller, something just felt a little off I really can t recommend this book over muchpolished works in this genre It was thoroughly unsatisfying from start to finish.I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review The intrigue here is China is playing the The characters are poorly developed and rather stereotypical never once was I actually interested in what was going to happen to them This is also because the plot unfolds so predictably, that there is never really any suspense Yuri is a Russian who speaks fluent English, and have lived at least a year as a native English speaker, yet he doesn t know the most basic idioms, which Layton explains in an fruitless effort to make his character somewhat alive.I love spy novels, read quite a few, this one is given one star for the plot idea only Very engrossing, though not as polished as might have yacht and other, lesser actions activities and seriously reduced this reader s enjoyment. That being said, Jeffrey Layton is another author whose work I will seek, and this series is one that I hope to read After trying for months to read this book, I m officially calling it quits I never could get into the story at all I could never connect with any of the characters I also had some serious issues
