Change Your Heart, Change Your Life: How Changing What You Believe Will Give You the Great Life You've Always Wanted Out of your heart flow your words and actions Change your heart, and you ll change your lifeAccording to best selling author Dr Gary Smalley, nobody has to live by the destructive subtle lies or believe the distortions of truth this world holds out to us There are steps, strategies, and beliefs people can bring to their lives to either totally transform them or quietly improve them and it all starts with hiding God s Word in their heartsHiding God s Word in his heart radically changed the life of Smalley himself, and he is seeing it revolutionize the lives of people around him as well from lust, materialism, selfishness, anger, stress, overeating, anxiety, and guilt, just to name a few No matter a person s age, experiences, or previous patterns, this book will guide readers to the whys and hows of orchestrating their beliefs to forever change their lives and relationships Very eye opening and life changing Smalley makes an observation contained in the writings of the apostles John and Paul and restates them in the language of contemporary Christian counseling so they are available to the lay reader in the popular Christian literature I think the author is right about meditating and really allowing scripture and thoughts about scripture become a part of our belief system This may be oversimplifying the process and discourage people when they don t get the same kind of fast results that Dr.Smalley apparently did I thought the author was very optimistic and maybe oversimplying the problems of changing thoughts and behaviors The author didn t mention prayer very much at all which should have been a major component of this tha I think the forthright about the beliefs hidden in our hearts that control our lives sometimes they re so hidden we haven t realised they are there I was surprised by how certain beliefs were affecting how I lived What I appreciated about this book was how Gary wasn t just giving the advice, but was also brutally honest about the beliefs that had been in his heart for 60 years, how they had affected him his family How he overcame them is what this book is all about, he shares it in this book because he wants us to have the same freedom he has found by replacing the beliefs we have hidden with the best beliefs that have been given to us by our Creator yes, it does mean lots of memory verses from the Bible, but believe me, it s worth it Gary does suggest various interesting ways to help you with memorisingI ve found typing the verses out on different coloured bits of paper, having them stuck around my room helps me The rewarda changed heart, a changed life I first read this book 5 years ago, since then have noticed a huge change in my life Hiding certain Scriptures in my heart has made such a difference in how I handle stressful situations a whole host of other things. As a child teenager, memorisation was easy for me At the age of 20 I became ill with CFS ME memorisation has beenverydifficult I stuck with it though, gradually have got them all typed or written up, so if I m having a bad day my memory just draws a blank, then I just get the verses out read through them On good days I remember them when I m in the shower, doing food preparation, washing up etc. This year has been a difficult one for me as things have kept going wrong, my health has decreased I decided that a refresher course of this book would be helpful It was encouraging as I saw how much I have changed over the last 5 years due to the principles given in this book, has also given me some fresh insights into how to handle life at the moment I think this is a book I will read yearly, rather than 5 yearly as I focus on keeping the right principles beliefs in my heart
